Reserve Profile

Sahyadri Tiger Reserve (STR) is situated in the Sahyadri Ranges of the Western Ghats between 16°58′05″–17°49′14″ N and 73°33′33″–73°55′12″ E, encompassing parts of the Satara, Sangli, Kolhapur, and Ratnagiri districts of Maharashtra. The reserve covers a total area of 1,165.57 km², comprising 600.12 km² of Core area and 565.45 km² of Buffer area.

The reserve comprises Chandoli National Park and Koyna Wildlife Sanctuary and is administratively managed through two Wildlife Divisions—Koyna and Chandoli. For effective protection and scientific management, the reserve is organized into 8 Ranges, 24 Rounds, and 75 Beats, as detailed below.
